Mazefate
Many listeners heard the interview with Buzz and Wendy on 89.7 and are interested to hear more of the story regarding a spirit named Mae. If you didn't hear the interview, you may still want to read the following ghost story. It is true! Mazefate started off with four members: Wendy, Buzz, Teresa and Steve. The band began practicing at Steve's home which was located near 42nd and Grover. The original name of the band was going to be Tradegy. (Little did they know that their band would live up to that name even though they did not use it.) When the band discovered that Tradegy was already taken by another band, they began their search for a new name. At practices, they started experiencing weird occurences around the house. A black cat was seen often roaming the house by each of the members on separate occasions. Steve did not own any pets, so everyone was a little concerned by this. Other strange things started happening. Once they were recording a song and played it back and it had background vocals that none of the members had sung. Pretty Freaky!! The band did some investigating and discovered that a women had died in that house and her name was Mae. She never did anything mean to the band, she just seemed a little playful. So the band decided that since she had her voice on one of their songs, and seemed to want to be a part of the band, they named the band Mazefate after her. (Mae's Fate) They thought they would put a little twist in the name by changing the s to a z. Plus they thought a maze would be a cool logo for the band. Everyone seemed to be happy with the choice, even Mae. When the band started playing gigs out, Mae seemed to tag along. Every gig had something strange happen. One time at Sokol, the fire alarms went off for no reason. The band did not really mind the pranks as there was not much they could do about it anyway so they kept playing. In october of 1998, Steve started getting depressed. He also started talking about Mae alot. The band had taken a break in playing and Steve seemed to spend more and more time at home alone. The other band members were concerned about Steve, but did not know how bad it had gotten. In January 1999, Steve killed himself. This was a real tradegy. He is very missed. The song Anything But Gone is a tribute to him. Even though Steve is gone and the band no longer practices at that house, Mae seems to follow them whereever they go. She does not do as many pranks as she had in the past, but the band still is always on the lookout for her. Some people may think that these things can be explained, but the band knows differently. Come to their gigs and see for yourself, if you aren't scared.
Mazefate does not currently have any gigs planned for the rest of the year at this time. They are going to be working on their 3rd CD. If you want to know when they are playing out next, please go the the fan page and sign up. This will guarantee that you get an email of their next show. That is if you think you are up to going! The last show at Sokol went really well and it did not seem that Mae was there. Lucky for the fans! However, the one and only picture from that show ended up looking like this:
